Orange Tofu Delicious is just so tasty I don’t even know what else to say about it. I just posted this on my Vegan website at Supernatural Vegan and thought I’d share with you here as well. This is a very tasty recipe! NOMS! I tweaked this recipe from something I saw on pinterest and I do have to say I absolutely love this! Hope you enjoy as much as I did!
I also want to tweak it a little to make it a little more healthy (minus the Oil and no white flour so will probably add a new recipe next time I create this love.
- 1.5 cups water
- 2 tablespoons orange juice
- 1/4 cup lemon juice
- 5 tablespoons white vinegar
- 2.5 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoons orange, zested
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoons ginger root, minced
- 3 teaspoons garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup green onion chopped
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon sesame oil
- 3 tablespoons cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons water
- 1 Block of Super Firm Tofu (Drained, Pressed, Cubed or Cut to your liking)
- 1/4 cup flour
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
Take a non-stick pan and put it on medium heat. Then add your tofu spread out evenly into your pan. Make sure that there is enough room for it to breathe. You may have to do this a few times before the entire block is prepared. Press your tofu with a spatula to get the excess water out. Let brown and flip over. Brown each side of the tofu and boom, you’re done.
Pour water, orange juice, lemon juice, white vinegar, and soy sauce into a saucepan and set over medium-high heat. Stir in the orange zest, brown sugar, ginger, garlic, chopped onion, and cayenne pepper. Bring to a boil. Remove from heat, and cool 10 to 15 minutes.
Place the tofu pieces into a resealable plastic bag. When contents of saucepan have cooled, pour half of sauce into bag. Reserve the remaining sauce. Seal the bag, and refrigerate for 1 hour.
In another resealable plastic bag, mix the flour, salt, and pepper. Add the marinated tofu pieces, seal the bag, and shake to coat. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Place tofu into the skillet, and brown on both sides. Drain on a plate lined with paper towels, and cover. Wipe out the skillet, and add the sauce. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Mix together the cornstarch with a bit of water; stir into the sauce. Reduce heat to medium low, add the tofu pieces, and simmer, about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Serve with brown or basmati rice. Garnish with green onions, and orange slices.
In this pic I have it over white rice BOO! I do my best to avoid white rice but tonight we didn’t have our brown rice so we made do. Also I think it would taste just as well without all the flour! Something to try next time around.
